This article is the fifth in a series on the agreement of the colors: Find the first article
If you read the articles about color and more precisely "what color for my complexion? " and what color suit to buy? " You will have many elements essential to answer this question.
To marry his suit and tie, there are five major "technical":
- The recall of color with the suit / shirt with high contrast
- The tone on tone shirt / tie
- The color gradient tie / suit.
- The third color "flash" (tie red / burgundy, purple, tie or "club" (diagonal stripes) with a contrasting color yellow, red, burgundy).
- The recall multiple
but first,
What reason for my tie?
If you are afraid of making mistakes in taste, man-chic recommend the plain ties.
They are easier to get married because you will not have to worry about the size of the patterns!
But the reasons are not to be banned! and you can play whenever you feel comfortable with the colors.
The patterns are visible either in tonal or light patterns either by the substance of the tie.
In all cases, promote:
- Small patterns, which blend with by far the dominant color of the tie while giving the
relief,
or
- The large and medium-sized diagonal stripes (avoid more than three colors on your tie).
The recall of color with the suit / shirt with high contrast
This technique works especially well with:
- A black suit, navy blue, dark gray
- A white shirt or light blue
- A tie, respectively, black, navy blue, dark gray

[Singlepic id = 96 w = 240 h = 180 float = "center"]
The tone on tone shirt / tie
Less and less popular, the tone on tone, is not strictly speaking a safe bet, but if the color of the shirt goes with the costume, this technique we can avoid errors of taste.
Usually we will choose a tie a little darker than the shirt.
eg charcoal gray suit, purple shirt clear, plain tie violet or light blue shirt, blue tie king.
The color gradient dress / costume.
This technique is between the tones and the recall suit / tie.
Indeed, we will make a point of costume, but in a slightly different tone than the costume itself ... For example, with a gray suit and white shirt, we can wear a light gray tie, or with a brown suit, tie in shades of bronze, or blue with a navy blue suit.
The third color "flash" that contrasts and highlights.
The contrasting color is red or burgundy!
Less sharp, blue sky (photo), or pale pink are very fashionable!
Although married, this can even be color flash green or yellow!
The third color may be either a plain tie or on a diagonal stripe tie (tie "club")
click images to enlarge[Singlepic id = 99 w = 240 h = 180 float = center]
The recall multiple
(Tie several colors including at least a shirt and recalling recalling a costume)
example: light-colored suit (beige) striped tie Grey / Sky Blue / Beige, blue shirt
(Tie several colors including at least a shirt and recalling rapelant costume)

NEED HELP????
here is my future husband has a blue suit and night we do not know what color shirt and tie.
thank you
# 3 by The Man chic at July 12, 2010
Hi Sonia,
Keep it simple, a white shirt and blue tie night should go to her delight.
Associate them socks and black shoes.
Think of a white handkerchief silk or linen for perfect elegance.

hello,
I am facing the same pb, I'm getting married, and I opted for a night blue suit, black limit, I took a white shirt, but I have to find the pb blue tie that night would be the same color as the suit to be sure not to be in bad taste.
First question: where can I find a plain ties with very broad color palette?
2nd question: if I can not find a blue tie night, I could put another color that would go equally well with my blue suit night?
thank you for your help.
# 5 by The Man chic at May 30, 2011
Hi Rayan,
You wear a vest at your wedding?
Generally, if one is Mary in street clothes as he seems to be your case, a vest sported by some embroidery gives the party atmosphere to your outfit.
You can choose a tie and a matching vest.
For ties with large variations of blue, early depends on the budget you want to allocate ... From a few dozen Euro tie rack at a few hundred euro Charvet ... In any case count 80 € for a nice tie ( galleries lafayette example)
If you want to make you happy with your marriage or brioni Marinella ties, zegna count from 120 to 180 €.
In any case accentuate the wedding, you can also put a bright tie: ivory should fit.
Best wishes!

Hello Bill,
For a wedding, you should be somewhat consistent with the colors that the bride will
==> A coat of the same color as the second color on it there's the dress or the bridal bouquet.
A white handkerchief (or better, a buttonhole flower)
a lavaliere in agreement with the vest,
Black or blue shoes, why not polish.

royal blue suit, white shirt and ivory, royal blue tie, brown belt and wooden shoe leather brown oak. review the components I would be a great! reported emergency! thank you!
# 11 by Man chic at December 9, 2010
Hello Bill,
.
This all seems very consistent.
If you wear a watch, try to have a brown leather strap
Also, consider a pocket silk of the same color as the shirt.
# 12 by Manub at December 13, 2010
My advice: navy blue is better than the royal blue, a shade too light. To avoid errors of taste, opt for brighter colors only for accessories (tie and pocket) for the costume, it is always best done in the classic. When the brown belt it is a mistake, first because the brown is not doing with the blue and then because the pants must be supported by straps to do well.
For shoes: they must always be black with a blue suit! Nadine de Rothschild does not contradict me without doubt. Finally the shirt: white, blue or even white-collar to white collar pink. This can also be line, provided it is not accompanied by a spotted tie! Last detail: never wear a pocket of the same color and with the same grounds as the tie. This is a fatal error, you will immediately be classified as managed or pecno Sunday clothes!
# 13 by Man chic at December 14, 2010
Hello Manub.
It seems that Bill was looking for a set for a wedding ... royal blue, certainly atypical, perhaps once adapted. It has one side a little more festive than a navy.
For black shoes Vs brown / chocolate with a blue suit .. I will not repeat it, I have repeatedly explained that the wedding colors brown / blue was perfect, but that Brown gives a more casual side, and agrees not to blow all occasions: In fact, the brown shoes were then considered for the shoes and not campaign for the city. For an evening of black shoes are recommended ... but for a rustic wedding during the day ... why not (although I'd first suggest to Bill Black).
Belt or suspenders .. Can anyone from the moment you feel good in his pants!
The straps can also not be worn with cuts of pants "modern" (base size). For the straps or belts, the point is that the color of the leather parts is the same as shoes and watchband.
The blue shirt with white collar, perhaps elegant, but gives a certain investment banking side of 60 years (white-collar heritage of detachable collars are created by a peasant woman tired of washing the whole shirt when only the collars blackened and wrists).
For a shirt "line" (I guess you mean "finely striped"), we can indeed be the match plain ties, but ties with dots from the time or the size of peas differs from the width of Scratch: this will break the effect of scratches.
For the cover, I agree with you, it must be matched with the shirt and not the tie.
For the "rank" you make people based on their light clothing, I find him arrogant and disrespectful ... everyone has the right to make mistakes of style, and in this world of jeans and t-shirts, should rather encourage people to dress well even if they point out discreetly and elegantly what adjustments we would have personally made to their clothes.
Let's be smart, let's be smart, let's be humble.
# 14 by Manub at December 19, 2010
Dear "Chic Man"
I will not discuss with you the infinite details as the merits of peas on a tie or the color of shoes, but I would like to respond to your remark about "ranking". Being a "smart man" (that's the title of your site, does not it?) Is largely a matter of social environment. While each medium has its codes and references, the fact remains that the true elegance of dress should tend upwards. Otherwise why do not you advise Bill to wear a suit like the diamond encrusted rappers are fond of New York? Our friend Bill could also wear a pink tuxedo for his wedding, it appears at the far end of Alabama this kind of clothes is very popular! If you do not have advised him of such outfits is precisely because the criteria are based on the elegance that is worn in the highest social circles. The clothing worn by mechanics, or farmers create rappers perhaps a fad passenger, but will never get references in terms of elegance. The refinement has nonetheless always been the appanage from the most educated and affluent. Also if you give a man the keys to the sartorial elegance with all that that implies as rules to follow, it will be well dressed wherever he goes, both the English court in a small village of rural France.

Hello,
I am acquiring a shiny brown suit for a great opportunity (very curved, 1 button) and I'm not on the match of the best ways possible. I thought the bear with a light blue shirt collar wide open with cufflinks (any color or metal?), But I'm not on the color of the tie, shoes (brown) belt and pouch.
Thank you for your corrections and suggestions.
Cordially
# 17 by Man chic at December 27, 2010
Hello Mr. Gaillard
The light blue shirt, will go perfectly with your outfit.
Give it a pocket of the same blue, with or without cause.
Shoes, belts and watch bands brown (or chestnut).
You can give your cufflinks to your belt loop, or choose pearl (awarded to the buttons of your shirt).
For the tie, I refer you to this article grant-suit and tie-shirt , plain tie, but a brown, blue or barely darker than your shirt should be a nice effect.
Happy Christmas and New Year!

my question: What color should I use for the shirt and tie? thank you
# 21 by Man chic at February 21, 2011
Hi Pierrette,
For a wedding, I recommend a white or ivory.
Then you will be able, to play on the vest and lavaliere (who wisely replacing the tie).
So choose these two elements with embroidery colors reminding of the themes of your relationship.
you might find this brand dertaines held boater ( http://www.canotier.fr/canotier.html )

My dress is composed of a strapless champagne-colored lace with ivory and champagne colored skirt.
My friend never wears a tie or suit.
What color vest and cravatine choose? The vest should be of the same color as the tie? With or without cause? Pouch or boutonniere?
Thank you in advance for your help
# 23 by Man chic at March 9, 2011
Hi Aurelie
It appears that you have found your colors. As long as you put a jacket Fluo the middle, anything can go.
But here's a proposal:
If the costume is dark, you can choose a jacket with embroidery Champagne chocolate (or tones), with a lavaliere chocolate with champagne embroidery,
White flower in his buttonhole.
All my best wishes and good luck for the preparation of this event.

Hello,
I'm getting married in June and my husband chose an ivory dress, we thought him to choose a white shirt, a brown tie, brown shoes and brown handkerchief with a waistcoat (optional) of the same color as the costume. Does it fit? I'm only 19 and I did not know much about suits so your valuable advice are welcome.
Thank you again
# 34 by Man chic at April 30, 2011
Hello Charlotte,
Your outfit has no lack of agreement, however, while the tie is supposed to illuminate the face, I'm afraid the brown appears from coming too and darken the face of your future husband.
Otherwise the cover is rather to agree with the shirt with the tie ... If you hold the key to brown, try a tissue tone (ivory with embroidered brown) to match the vest, an ascot with ivory;
Or a white handkerchief, with a matching waistcoat, cravat bicolor.

#36 by L'Homme chic at 1 mai 2011

Hello, I'm getting married in September.
I buy clothes from a boss very adjusted, very dark blue, with an "watermark" a nice pattern prince of gall.
The seller advised me a vest and tie together in almost the same color pattern but with very slightly marked with small squares. So all is dark enough. I love all beautiful but my mother I was "very kindly" pointed out that AC was a little undertaker. The shirt is ivory.
So every time I try the costume I can not stop thinking about it. The costume is beautiful though.
Is what all can go? or should he choose a tie clearer cheer for all?
# 45 by Man chic at September 24, 2011

For your wedding you can actually leave on a lighter tie, sit in tone on tone with your shirt, or recall of the second color of the dress of the bride.

# 63 by matt at February 25, 2012
if you want to achieve one of the vertices of bad taste, put a tie patterned "funny", Mickey heads, bananas and other small cars or penguins. Some say that we must assume that his humor and designers, famous (?) Or not does not matter, have tried it. The talent will never be an excuse for me to tie for comic reasons.
Besides, if you're boss or manager and want to test it (nicely) someone, or for recruitment, put such a tie. Call in to the topic, no matter. On his arrival his watch discreetly look at your tie, and the short of your conversation. At the end of the interview, come to subtly ask her opinion ("speaking of how to dress for the meeting gadget, I saw a nice store where I bought this tie, that you think? '). If you answered that she is beautiful, ask you about his sincerity (or taste!). If he says it is horrible, do you consider it does not as implausible? Does not he does not seek to belittle you or take your place? If you said you would put another tie in better value and gives you clues as to what good practice, working with him, he is probably more effective (unless it adopts a broad smile and head held high , feigning empathy).
All this is obviously suggestive, but sometimes so effective ...
