The width of the lapel

Depending on the period, the width varied setbacks.
Very large, in the 30 and 70, it is actually very close in years 50 and 60 to return to an intermediate width in the 80's.
Today, as the series "Mad Men" is all the rage, fashion is back to back close enough, although the opening of the costume is made much wider. This last feature is partly due to the costumes to two or even a button (s) that have taken over the 3-button suits.

But, whatever the mode, the question is, can you wear any width lapels with anything?
The answer is no!
As you know now, faithful readers, everything must be in harmony, and good proportions.
Through the colors to the widths of the back of our jackets.

The rule is to give the width of his lapels with the width of his tie!

Wear a tie ultra thin (type Hedi Slimane, and Karl Largarfeld) with a double-breasted suit (naturally wide lapels), or wear a tie whose width approximates 9 cm with a suit lapels ultrafine will be distasteful unequivocally !

For fans of action, we can consider that the setbacks are:

  • Large if their width exceeds 8 cm
  • Means if their width is between 5.5 and 7.9 cm
  • Close if their width is less than 5.4 cm
  • It will in each case, wear a tie with a width approximately equal to the width of a setback for effective and elegant style.
Note that as for ties or lapels, the measurement is made at the widest point.

In terms of knowing how wide lapels choose, be aware that the width of setbacks take the same logic as the width of the cut. Today, more than a setback will end, the more you'll look like a young man, the reverse will be more extensive, the greater the effect will be reached by your traditional suit and authoritarian.

From a personal point of view a setback with a width of between 7 and 7.5 cm gives a dynamic appearance while providing some seriously.

Are, chic, elegant're, adapt the width of our ties to the width of the lapels of our jackets!

On the costume there are rules to follow as for the shirts. Depending on your body, you will opt for a suit or curved wide.
