With some delay, we finally have the first items on the colors:
On the program:
The Basic rules of how to wear color.
Colors that go and do not go together
Grant to his skin color.
1. Colors: The basics of how to wear colors.
In this paper, we use an abuse of language by combining the white and black in color (although this is not the case).
1.1 What is the purpose of wearing the colors in an elegant way?
Wear colors in an elegant way will allow us to develop without being noticed.
It can also help in the case of a company, to melt into a mold or at least show that we master the codes of elegance. For example, consulting firms recruit candidates who "are good" (candidates will be asked to represent their company to other companies). In this case, "well presented" does not just wear a suit, but be clean and elegant as much in the way they dress, behave, what to discuss. Someone who has light beige suit with a shirt in winter "Blue King" and a yellow tie and black shoes, is not someone who looks good in terms of dress.
Here, therefore we will give you the basics of color matching.
1.2 How many colors in my outfit?
The answer is simple:
At least two colors!
A dominant color (typically the color of the costume), and at least one secondary color. (The shirt). In this case, the tie will be the color of the suit for a more classic style and strong contrast, or color of the shirt for a tone on tone for a younger style although a bit dated.
The shoes will be the color of the suit.
Maximum of four colors!
Shoes, belt, watch the same color
Of a second color suit
Shirt (and cover any) of a third color
Tie of a fourth color.
Why an elegant outfit should it be between 2 and 4 colors?
If we do only one color, we may pass for a decorative element .. pole, wall, bioman.
Is there an exception?
Yes, funerals, where it is advisable to wear only black (well in any case something simple)
Yes, the carnivals.
1.3 How to Mix the colors with "contrast" with complementary
1.3.1 The Base: The light-colored shirt (white, light blue)
The contrast quantifies the ability to distinguish two distinct regions in an image.
A rule of thumb is never wear white suit, but wearing a white shirt.
Indeed, the major color (dominant) will often be darker than white (unless white evening as in the days of Eddie B.)
To mark the contrast with the rest of the torso of the body, and the same coming illuminate the face, the white shirt is the shirt to have.
1.3.2 The complementary colors and the color wheel:
"We called the complementary color to another color opposite on the color wheel , illustrated as a circle representing the color spectrum visible to the eye human. We can define it rigorously in additive synthesis , as in subtractive complementary color depends on the temperature of white light used "(source wikipedia)
2.The colors that go and do not go together:
2.1The black and navy blue
These two colors are dark colors, or complementary or additive that is confused ... unintentionally.
How many times have we enjoyed a color "black" was actually a navy blue,
or how many times have we had to check the label that the navy was not black.
So with a navy blue suit, it is strongly discouraged:
wearing a black shirt, (it is better a light blue shirt or white)
or wear a black coat (better coat, navy blue, or brown or beige).
2.2 The Black And Brown
For the same reasons, that black and navy blue, black and brown are all avoided.
2.3 Exceptions:
The black shoes, which are more formal than brown shoes, and it is advisable to wear with a navy blue suit in the workplace.

Let me also add:
Avoid wearing a black suit and a shirt formwork at a wedding or other ceremony, we might take you to the server!
Otherwise, this super blog! I read with great attention!

After reading all this advice, I sought to deepen understanding of the mechanisms and color mapping.
I ordered a book on color and its agreements. I am the second reading and things start to be clearer (I hope!, I count on you to tell me ...).
This book is rather theoretical, but very educational. I've done the reading, trying to see how this could be used for clothing.
I have learned from other color you could give with its component colors.
I use the example brown (one of my costumes) that is made with orange and black.
If I start by dismissing black, orange color could be the first to associate.
The orange is made with yellow and red so I could also involve these two colors.
So what?
I read somewhere on this blog that you could put a light blue shirt with a brown suit. I have not yet found the link (theoretical) with brown. I am looking ...
# 4 by The Man chic at January 10, 2010
Hello Christian,
Indeed, it is not shocking to see brown, red, yellow and orange associates.
These are all quads, colors say "hot" (color of fire). They are often found in tissues and Indian decor.
From my perspective, it may be interesting to come "decide" with color "cold" (water color like white, blue, green).
This is where complementary colors:
Colors that are opposite in the color wheel.
Suddenly, in front of Brown, we find the blue.
In costume, in order not to have a look too dark, we will not choose a dark blue, but a light blue.
In more casual attire, you can associate with brown pants and a light blue shirt and gray sweater. With brown shoes you will be very elegant for keeping Weekend.
Anyway, thanks for your interest.
# 5 by Christian at January 13, 2010
I thank you for the attention you give to our questions!
In fact, my example was based on harmony 'by analogy' that I had just read. Following your response, I looked in my book section harmony 'in contrast' of two complementary colors and I found the blue in front of orange ...
This seems so obvious when you have the color wheel (and the examples above) under the eyes, but it is still far from being 'automatic' for me.
I will test the elegance weekend. I have a gray sweater, this risk does not to be a little dark?
It would be interesting, as for costumes, an article (or more!) On harmony outfits called 'sport' (if I understood correctly, mismatched jacket pants)
Thank you again.

You just clarify something: how would you jacket that aligns with the holding above?
Thank you and goodbye

Good evening,
Here I have a question I trotted from the purchase of a chocolate brown suit. What color shoes to wear? Because I hear shoes, same color as the suit because it is black "hasbeen". And sometimes I hear the opposite ^ ^.
I'm 20 and it's for a wedding but my costume resservira me anyway.
Also, a friend told me that the pale blue shirt should be avoided with a brown suit and it would be better preferred pink.
I do not want to show me in company with a suit that does not respect the norms and standards of good taste. You will therefore understand that I ask for help
# 8 by The Man chic at March 15, 2010
Hello Vincent,
The black shoes are not "has been", but they are less "funky", that is more serious than brown shoes (which were seen at the base of campaign like shoes).
With brown shoes, you'll be able to play with colors, etc. on the patina ...
In any case, the two colors will go with your brown suit / Chocolate.
Most important is to think of your belt and give your watch to your shoes.
If you take brown shoes, pay attention to what they are not much brighter than your suit .. you can put shoes black, dark brown, medium brown shoes, but avoid clear-beige shoes.
However, if you want brown summer shoes, you can opt for a suede leather (suede) which certainly marks the appearance of your summer outfit.
For shirts, one white (safe bet), light blue as a pale pink will fit ... the trick is not to be mistaken in the choice of his tie.
If you do not want to commit odd, and you can not stand the tie, you can make your costume a pocket of the same color as your shirt.

Some notes, which are admittedly a subjective opinion, and I submit to the author with all respect due to him, it is indeed easier to criticize than to build.
"It is not advisable to wear a black shirt. "
Indeed. And not just with a navy blue suit. If you have a black shirt in your closet, throw it, or make in-one cloth to polish your shoes. Leave the black shirt with some clubbers remote suburbs who want to look dressed up when they go clubbing.
About the black / navy blue, black / brown:
I can not help but to disagree with you on that. This is certainly a general rule which is a good start, but the club by a man of taste in two colors close, "tonal", can give the effect of the utmost elegance. It is in my view of things unthinkable to wear black pants and black shoes, except for mourning. Black pants and brown shoes, provided you have the correct black and brown well, are the most beautiful effect. On the same idea, and leaving the purely professional, a camel jacket and black pants will go very well together.
Similarly, and provided you follow a fundamental rule, that is to always put the darker outside (Ie no dark shirt with a clear coat ..), the superposition of elements navy blue and black may be the most beautiful effect.
Agree with you for the black shoes with navy blue, professional-in-part, or slogans are rather conformity and effacement qu'élégance and refinement. Otherwise, brown and blue, can be seen on your color wheel, will wonderfully well together.
And also in perfect agreement on the number of color. Neither harlequin or batman.
# 14 by Man chic at December 27, 2010
Hello Octave, Prince of Plum.
Thank you for your comment interesting and sharp.
For black shirts, I totally agree with you ... but after a trip to southern France, it seems that the black shirt (often worn casually with jeans) is a regional specialty ...
During the same visit I also met some shops in other surprising colors for shirts, like purple, or dark brown ... ouch.
For black / navy blue, I'm afraid this is a fad, but if you have any examples of associations, I'm interested.
For brown / black, why not, but the camel is lighter, it can not really be confused with brown.
For black / black, think to evening wear. It would be inappropriate to go to a black tie evening with brown shoes ..
Anyway, thank you for your comment, and Merry Christmas and New Year!

Well I see that we have fun like crazy here, and especially ... we have some free time (so to monopolize his attention to such trivialities).
Gentlemen, stop trying be governed by rules, relax a little! Reminder: the tastes and colors that can not be explained! The only rule is valid: do not dress like a clown, except that nothing is really unacceptable.
to read as the result of your analysis so sharp ... in intangible principles, one wonders just: here is the smart man, or man ... Nerdy?

So if I understand it avoids associating black and navy blue except for the belt and shoes.
What about a black tie with a navy blue suit?
# 19 by Man chic at September 24, 2011
Hello Fripp.
Ditto for the tie, although this association is a fashion since 2010 ...
Say that with a white shirt it goes but hey, it's not the happiest agreement.
# 20 by Jolio at August 19, 2011
I think it is just taking unnecessary head these golden rules. Since when, we must submit to the supreme wisdom in dress, leaving the complete arbitrariness of who knows whom? You should dress as you feel good, let guiser by his instinct and his own taste and not to fall into this sad stiffness for fear of being frowned upon ...

I like to know if this jacket can be worn with pants other than jeans? thank you in advance
# 31 by didier Diatta at December 15, 2011
or you rather advise me to put black pants and a light blue shirt?
# 32 by Man chic at December 15, 2011
Hello Didier,
Although I am not a big fan of black jackets, all black suede shoes / jeans / light purple shirt (pastel) / black jacket seems coherent.
For the gray waistcoat, everything will depend on the gray (dark or not) and purple .. but with a light purple shirt and a gray / medium, you should be fine.
by cons, there is clearly a casual-chic outfit.
In any case I do not recommend black pants.

Hello,
I just discovered your site and course pages with interest from earlier. Nevertheless I was disappointed to read that "a rule of thumb is never wear white suit", since I recently bought a white suit, I found the most beautiful effect ...
So I want your opinion to ensure that all makes good anyway (for those rare occasions that I have to wear), as required or prohibited colors for different elements. For example I think black shoes are not shocking; a black shirt and tie blance or the opposite either. If you had a few tricks and could enlighten me on the pitfalls I would be very grateful (including for Socks, black or white?).
I would also ask you about the handkerchief in the pocket of the suit that I find particularly distinguished. On his own I would opt for white or red, but by color of the shirt / tie / costume there again associations to avoid or favor?
Thank you in advance if you can advise me on these points.
(And if you have a little time to explain to me how a black shirt is in bad taste since I also find it relatively elegant so well. But maybe I do not get enough of my campaign also ...
).
Anyway, thank you for these items that are of great help.
